Herod The Tetrarch
(Matt 14:1-12; Mark 6:14-16/29; Luke 9:7-9)
Herod The Tetrarch.
He heard reports about Jesus
For Jesus had become known
Some were saying "He's John the Baptist
From the dead he has come home."
Miraculous powers are at work in him
Others said "He is Elijah, or one of the prophets"
Had arrested, chained and imprisoned
Baptizer John he would kill, for saying
"Wrong to take her, Herodias
The wife of your brother Phil"
Miraculous boldness was at work in him (John that is!)
The fear that overcame Herod, was fear of the people.
Herodias' daughter was dancing
And he promised her with an vow
To give whatever she asked for
"John the Baptist--I want his head now!"
The king was distressed by his promise
But all of the people had heard.
Her mother, the prompter received it
John's head, to make good Herod's word.
Today The rulers still fear the people
And we always in need of a John
Who will speak without fear without favour
"Right is right and wrong is wrong"
We need just one John on each corner
God sending His favour upon.
To stand when the odds are against him
Risking life, like God¹s only Son.
Miraculous witness, what a/your life can be!
Brought to stand before kings, before rulers like Herod the Tetrarch.
