Jazz ("Bird", Bud, J.J., Miles, Max)
Mento (early Jamaican popular music, using RHUMBA box, acoustic guitar, banjo, maracas)
Calypso (Trinidadian fast-paced hi-hat rhythm with Mighty or King Sparrow giving typical heavy political and social commentary )
Soca (from Trinidad again, but the lyrical text is light--not serious, just for partying)

The construct used:
1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & ||1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & ||
Caribbean rhythms use the dotted crotchet followed by ANY OF the following, within the construct: quaver, crotchet, dotted crotchet, minim. The dotted crotchet value is written an carried as such, and not as crotchet tied to quaver, irrespective of where it falls in the 4/4 measure.
